Breaking down R.E.A.L: A deep dive into ‘Act’
“THE FUTURE BELONGS TO THE CURIOUS. THE ONES WHO ARE NOT AFRAID TO TRY IT, EXPLORE IT, POKE AT IT, QUESTION IT AND TURN IT INSIDE OUT.”
I don’t know who first spoke those words… but I love every single letter. It so perfectly captures everything I want to shout from the rooftops and seamlessly ties in with my message to ACT, as this week we deep dive into the letter ‘A’ of R.E.A.L.
But do you know what leaps out at me the most about those words? The way they so effortlessly spur me on. They make me want to do things I’ve always been too scared, too nervous or just too downright tired to do. They make me want to challenge not only my own beliefs but also those touted by the world around me. I’m done with biting my tongue because that serves no one. Life is messy, tiring, tough, and always will be. But it’s also bursting with opportunity, adventure and challenges begging to be solved.
The very best thing we can do to uncover all that good stuff is question ourselves and the world daily – because your answers will ultimately propel you forward.
Why do you do what you do?
Why do you think that way?
Why do you act that way?
What are you afraid of?
What do you want?
Big questions, yes – the answers won’t always be on the tip of your tongue. But kicking off that higher level of curiosity is one of the most important tools at our disposal when it comes to self-leadership. It will ignite a spark deep down within you, a yearning to truly identify the things that serve you best and disregard the rest. I find it forces me to step out of the day-to-day; it breaks that monotony and shines a great big spotlight onto the future I’m striving to reach. All of a sudden you’ll find yourself being driven by the very thought of who you want to become and everything you want to achieve.
So why not begin today? Act today. Start by tackling some of those heavy questions, write it all down, sleep on it and start again tomorrow. Some answers you’ll be happy to share, others you’ll want to keep all to yourself, and that’s okay. But whatever you choose, do it boldly, bravely and unashamedly. Go on, poke a stick at the future, turn it inside out.
